Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes — in Queensland you need a Recreational Marine Driver Licence (RMDL) to operate a powered boat with an engine over 4hp.

That’s why we offer The Tinny with a 4hp motor, which can be hired without a boat licence (drivers licence still required for ID).

  • Yes. All hirers must be 18 years or older and able to provide valid photo ID.

  • All hires operate on a full-to-full fuel policy:

    • You receive the boat with a full tank

    • You return it full

    • If you’re unable to refuel before returning, no problem — we can refuel it for you and simply deduct the fuel cost from your bond. No additional surcharge, just the fuel cost for convenience.

  • Either option is available.

    • Self-tow: You collect the boat on its trailer and launch it yourself.

    • Launch & retrieval service: For a small additional fee, we can deliver/launch and collect the boat at your chosen ramp.

If you’re not confident towing or launching, we recommend choosing the launch & retrieval option, especially for larger boats.

  • Our boats can be used:

    • Anywhere motorised watercraft are permitted

    • Within Moreton Bay (and nearby approved waterways)

    • For smaller boats (like The Tinny) we recommend sticking to rivers, estuaries and sheltered waters.

    • Some dams and waterways around Brisbane do not allow petrol motors — if you're unsure, ask us before booking.

  • We’re here to help. If you experience any issues:

    • Call us straight away

    • We’ll troubleshoot with you and talk you through next steps

All boats are insured and maintained, and we’ll cover emergency processes during the handover briefing.

  • A bond is required before departure and is fully refundable once the boat is returned:

    • On time

    • With no damage

    • In the agreed condition

If damage occurs while the boat is in your care (including damage to the boat, trailer, motor, or third-party property), the bond may be partially or fully retained depending on the situation.

  • All hires include key safety and operating equipment, such as:

    • Life jackets (PFDs)

    • Safety gear as required

    • Anchor + rope

    • Trailer (if self-tow)

    • Basic handover and operating briefing
